i have a power mac g4

the fan is hitting something.. maybe the casing

this happened once before and the 4 screws that hold the fan to the casing had come lose and so the fan was pretty much just jumping around causing the banging noise.

i opened up my box to see that this had happened again and so i tightened it same as last time but i'm still getting a knocking noise

any ideas?

do i need to replace anything?

im thinking of just cutting the metal grill that protects the fan off so it will stop the knocking noise

is this a bad idea?

use some seal all on the screws when you put them in next and it will set them so the vibrations wont shake them loose.

as for the knocking, feel around till you find something that is causing it.
