Yes a PCI card will work in a PCI-X slot without any problems. I use an Adaptec DuoConnect firewire/usb card that is PCI in my G5.
The newer PCI-Express isn't compatable but a whle new bus standard. It is considered to be far better than PCI-X and even a great improvement ove AGP for graphics cards. It will be interesting to see how long before Apple decides to adopt it.
Apparantly I missed that. All the PCI cards I have got in the last few years meet the specs so they are compatible. I only have the one i use so I figured they all would work, duh.
Anyway here is the link at Apple with a good explanation and pictures to identify the cards.
Most newer PCI cards (like 1995 or newr) most likely it supports both 3.3v and 5v, if not just 3.3v. If it only supports 5v, then that card must be REALLY old.
