I ordered a G5 Dual 2 GHz Rev B on 9 June 2004. Its a BTO machine: upgraded to 1 GB RAM, Bluetooth module, and the ATi 9600 XT w/128 MB Ram.

The ship dates i have been given so far:
28 June 2004
8 July 2004
12 July 2004
22 July 2004

So, its been over a month since I ordered the G5. If it ships on the 22nd, it will take 8-10 days to reach me (based on experience with previous orders from my local reseller). That possibly puts it in my hands at the start of August.

Hopefully, by the end of October, I'll be finished rehab from all the drinking I've been doing to kill my nerves. God--mnit! I mean, come on! I feel like I'm waiting at the doctor's office for my girlfriend to 'say' yes with a look of horror on her face or 'no' with a big smile instead. Maybe i should just get a grip...

Whats holding it up? The 128MB ATi card? The Bluetooth module? My reseller says his Apple Rep reports a large backorder (no kidding). Two other customers who ordered the same Dual 2 GHz G5 on 9 June (like me), have received shipping confirmations! They didn't BTO, however.

Anyone else's experience come close to this for a BTO 2 GHz G5 Rev B?

nah, i doubt its a problem with the system since there are no changes with the dual 2.0 from revision A to B.

im betting its a parts shortage of some sort..

I've read that it's the ATI 9600 XT holding the orders back ... not enough in stock maybe.

I ordered my G5 (dual 2GHz) with the upgraded video card (128mb) on 7/9. The estimated ship date was listed for 7/26. However I got an email today saying it had shipped. Boy was I surprised and excited to hear the good news!

So I hope you'll all be surprised like me and get it ahead of schedule.

First off, I know how you feel. When I bought my G5 right after it was announced and watched my ship date be pushed back so Apple could fill Virginia Tech's Super Computer order, I was hot. The above delay wasn't my first, and I'm sure it's not gonna be my last Apple product delay. Here's the bottom line I've come to: No computer hardware company that I know of is as aggressive to update/upgrade/redesign their products. I like that about Apple. I've owned everything they've pioneered from the Lisa up; and I'm an early adopter - like many of you. A conservative company would in no way be shipping a Rev B. of a new 64 Bit chip/Computer architecture at this point in it's life span. Bottom line; I want my cake and I want to eat it too. I was the best, fastest, coolest stuff, and I want it now. But to quote the Stones, we can't always get what we want.

So, vent away - I do understand. Apple is too aggressive with products, tech, ship dates, etc. I'm just saying that it's a two-edged sword. I love the aggressiveness when it comes to technology/products, but I hate it when I have to suffer the back-edge; supply problems, etc.

Sorry for the lecture. Disregard if you so desire.

I just received an email from Apple saying that my CTO G5 2.0 (9600XT and 1 GB RAM) was shipped this evening. Certainly late from the initial date, but early from the revised one. Hopefully all those waiting will start to get shipment notification soon:

Order date: June 28 (educ Apple Store)
Expected ship July 8
Revised ship July 23
Actual ship: July 15

Good luck and hang in there!

Well, I hope for you guys that Apple ships earlier than planned. I'll have to wait, cause the Apple Store where I'm supposed to pick up mine is closed for the next 2 weeks

Unimax to answer your question, my original order was 11 June ane when the 6800 came out I called the apple store to change my configuration, I made sure I would keep my place in line first, they assured me it would keep the same shipping date, which has always been 7/30

I ordered a dual 2 GHz, 1 GB RAM, no airport or bluetooth, radeon 9600 on July 16, estimated ship date August 2, actually shipped today July 22. Unfortunately, my 20 inch display is still showing an estimated ship date of August 16th.

I'd be interested to hear if yours with a 6800 ships in July. From everything I've heard from different Apple Store reps the 6800s are scheduled to ship at the end of august. I've got an order for a dual 2.0 512 (memory from apple is way to expensive)/250/BT/AE/6800 and my ship date says on or before 08/31/2004.

I'm the original poster of this post(?!), so I feel obligated to post my ship dates as they happen. I can't imagine how this information will help anyone but user groups have to be used for something other than discussion of hockey and Star Trek, right?

I'll post back here when i get the G5 and I hope to Christ that will be the last you hear of me.

I ordered mine on 27 july 27th (1 Gb RAM, Radeon 9600 XT, 250 Gb HD, Bluetooth) + Final Cut Express; estimated shipping date was august 12th and never changed.

The powerMac shipped today (august 06th) from Ireland (Confirmation by email and the Applestore report).

Final Cut Express not yet shipped (est. shipping still august 12th).

My Dual 2 GHz Rev B G5, ordered on 9 June 2004, arrived today! Its a BTO machine: upgraded to 1 GB RAM, Bluetooth module, and the ATi 9600 XT w/128 MB Ram.

Here are the associated dates:
-09 June 2004 (order date)
-28 June 2004
-08 July 2004
-12 July 2004
-22 July 2004
-23 July 2004
-27 July 2004 (actual ship date)
-10 August 2004 (delivered to me)

Thats two months from order to delivery.

I don't know whether I should be deliriously happy or moderately happy. I think I'm 'happy' diluted with 'torment'. Yeah, thats it.

Shaken, not stirred.

Giddiness mixed with a dash of mild frustration?

My G5DP2.5 CTO/BTO is still reporting 9/8/04 for ETA. Ordered July 26. Still, good sign reading arrival reports.
