I am on a G4 QS, 800mhz. with an ATI 128 Pro AGP video card. I assume that this card does not support extended desktop mode as I do not have that option in Preferences (no middle button giving me mirror vs extended option). My monitors are 15" Apple Studio LCD and "generic" LCD (have all proper cable conversions for ADV to standard DV and VGA/D-Sub plug adaptors)
My primary use is for audio tracking and mixing (ProTools) and I need to be able to utilize extended desktop mode. Mirror mode is not very useful to me.
I do not have heavy video demand (no games, etc.) and ProTools does not put heavy demand on the CPU as it is not a host based system.
I'd like a "good" AGP card (want to preserve all PCI slots), but presume I do not need a "rocket ship". Also would like to conderve $. Is the (older?) ATI 8600(?) a good choice?
Please any and all Suggestions????? AND advice...........
Thanks,
Felix Misch

According to the spec sheet for your QuickSilver 800 MHz, you probably have the default ATi Radeon 7500 graphics card, not the much older ATi Rage 128 Pro.
The Radeon 7500 supports extended desktop, if that is the card you are using and the Arrangement tab does not appear in Monitors, it may be getting confused by the adapters, or has a damaged preference file. Try enabling displays in the menu bar, and see if there is an option there to turn off mirroring.

Reader50 is correct that the Quicksilver single G4 800 came with a ATI Radeon 7500 Stock which does support dual monitors. Did you buy it new? Did you trade out the Radeon 7500 for the older ATI card? You are right that an ATI 128 Pro doesn't supported an extended desktop, by rights you aren't even supposed to have 2 monitors hooked up to it, the 2 connectors are just there to give you the option of one or the other. If it works with both connected, I guess you can leave it that way.

Thank-you very much for your help. I bought the G4 used and apparently someone, prior to my purchase, degraded the machine with an ATI 128 card. The machine was sold as "Dual Monitor" and it isn't!!!
Suggestions for cards other than or better than the 7500????
Thanks again.

The Radeon 9000 would be good for what you're doing, since you're not into games. The Radeon 9800 would be more for games.
