I got my G5 back on June 23rd (1.8 ghz, 512 MB ram, 9600 card).

I had to return it though due to a dead firewire port on the front, so now I'm waiting for a latest 7/26/04 delivery date on a new replacement.

Anybody else have any issues with a new order?

arent the firewire ports on the front the same as pc front ports - just a cable going to a firewire header on the motherboard? So couldnt the wire have been pulled out or somthing?
we don't have time to stop for gas

^ Hmm....didn't try dismantling it or anything. Maybe it was that simple a solution.

Anyhow, they're sending me a brand new one, hopefully this one doesn't have any problems. Historically, I've had alot of bad luck with whatever I ordered:

1998: Blue and White G3. Processor apparently died right after the 1 year warranty expired. I practically had to beg the Apple customer service to let me buy Applecare outside of the original 1 year purchase deadline.

2003: 15" aluminum laptop. Dreaded white spots forced a return for repairs.

2004: The current firewire fandango.

Even with the crummy trail of bad luck, I'd still stick with Apple products. =P

And fortunately, I still have the laptop, at least temporarily until I get the G5 back, then sell the laptop.

Good luck for me so far........

Performa 6290.....motherboard replaced for unknown reason. There was a utility that I downloaded from Apple that tested something....the test came back saying that the Mobo needed to be replaced.

266 G3 tower....no problems

400 G3 Lombard....no problems

533 G4 tower.....no problems

Dual 1.8 G5 tower......only the chirping. Did Apple ever resolve this problem?
