I'd wanted a Mac since Apple first launched the black G3 line back in the late 1990s. The portables were stunning and seemed to have power that put their PC equivelents to shame, plus they included dazzling battery lives and huge TFTs. However, they were expensive and I could only dream.

Fast forward to this year when I suddenly realized that I not only needed a new computer but also had access to the Apple education discount through the school I attend. YAY.

So I'v been running my DP rev. B. 1.8Ghz G5 for about a month now exclusively. I can say happily report that it's been everything I expected it to be. Stable, blazing fast, and pretty (both the unit/peripherals and OS). For file management I'v gradually migrated to using Terminal much like I continued to use the Command Prompt under XP for quick data organization.

Only twice have I been forced to reboot. The first was when the unit hung on a website and the second was when I got a kernel panic after inserting an HP CD-RW (it also brought down my friend's G4 iBook). Under XP I'd often have to restart twice a day, and I had a pretty solid system.

Prior to purchasing the unit, I fully expected that I would end up using Microsoft Internet Explorer for web browsing, a Microsoft email client, Microsoft MSN Messenger, and some third-party MP3 player. Instead, I'v fallen in love with Safari, iMail, and iTunes, though MSN Messenger does get a good workout.

My next computer will definetly be a Mac. I'd love to add a portable towards the end of next year, especially if IBM/Apple can engineer a mobile G5 processor.

I'v been thrilled with the no hassle pleasures of using this machine: no troubleshooting, no viruses, no spyware, no adware, and a dedicated community of enthusiasts to help out with the issues that to arise, though I'v been pretty sickened by those who have taken to constantly attack the mere existence of the rev. B DP 1.8Ghz G5.

But whatever, go Apple!

When you got hung up on that website it might have been easier to simply terminate the application using a force quite (Apple, option, esc). Other than that congratulations on purchasing a fine box.

Wow, what a switch story. I don't know if the campaign is active at all, but you should try to send it over to Apple. Congratulations on a true upgrade!

I'm suffering from G5 envy!

I've only got 2 weeks until my cash comes through, then I'm joining the G5 Clan. I'll be sad to see the FP iMac go, but time marches on. My Mum gets the FP iMac, she'll be overjoyed. Sometimes you have to make people 'switch' by being rather sly about it all.

I was tempted to wait for the G5 iMac, but I know in my heart it's got to be the tower. Limping along with that 4MX in the iMac for 2 years has been hell. WC3 is alright, but no chance with MOHAA.

Anyhow, congratulations!
