Hi All,

Funny thing happened the other day: my sound turned off, and I couldn't get it to turn back on. I hadn't been doing anything unusual, I'd just quit QuickTime Player.

The volume controller in the menu bar was colourless (like it was inactive). I could move the volume slider around, but it had no effect.

I went into the sound control panel, fiddling there had no effect.

I logged out and back in, no change.

I logged in as a different user, no change.

I rebooted, no change

I rebooted and zapped the pram, no change.

The fix? Get this:
I plugged some headphones into the front headphone jack, and my sound came back! (even when I unplugged them).

Weird.

My 12" PowerBook did this and it had a mysterious popping noise that went away if I plugged in my headphones and took them out.
