Picked up my G5 yesterday (dual 1.8) and it's been amazing (upgrading from an older G4) except for an issue that I haven't been able to resolve with the firewire.

None of my firewire devices (2x iPod, firewire webcam) are recognized by the G5. There is power to the iPod's, but they won't sync, and the iPod software update program does not recognize them.

I fear a trip back to the store, but thought I'd solicit ideas here first. The only posts on the apple support pages seemed to point to a motherboard repair/replacement.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Try a fresh install of X.3. If that doesn't work, I'd just return the box and not deal with the hassle of RMA.

Yeah, was contemplating that route. Of course, I didn't discover firewire wasn't working until after I had copied all my files/music/etc. from the old computer.

Thanks

Check the Apple System Profiler. If the devices don't show up, the machine likely needs a new logic board.

ACSA 10.4/10.3, ACTC 10.3, ACHDS 10.3
