I just got a G4 dual 1.25 GHz MDD and I noticed that in System Profiler, it identifies the memory as PC2600. I've heard of PC2700 (that's what the manual says I should use in this Mac) but I haven't heard of 2600.
If I do add more memory is this something I should be concerned about? can you mix PC2700 and PC2600?
System Profiler gives this info:
DIMM0/J21:
Size: Empty
DIMM1/J22:
Size: Empty
DIMM2/J23:
Size: 512 MB
Type: DDR SDRAM
Speed: PC2600U-30330
DIMM3/J20:
Size: 512 MB
Type: DDR SDRAM
Speed: PC2600U-25330
Thanks!

I've never heard of PC2600 RAM, only PC2700. I did a bit of looking around, and I think what you're seeing is a system profiler bug. I think the memory is actually pc2700, and you are perfectly safe to add more pc2700 RAM. I'll keep looking around and edit my post if I'm wrong... but I don't think that I am

You could even add PC3200 RAM and it would work just fine. Anything of higher spec will just clock down. Don't buy lower-spec stuff like PC2100, however

Be happy.

I have the same problem in my new MDD 2003 tower (Dual 1.25):
Memory:
DIMM0/J21:
Size: 256 MB
Type: DDR SDRAM
Speed: PC2600U-25330
DIMM1/J22:
Size: 512 MB
Type: DDR SDRAM
Speed: PC2600U-25330
DIMM2/J23:
Size: Empty
Type: Empty
Speed: Empty
DIMM3/J20:
Size: Empty
Type: Empty
Speed: Empty
But I also have something strange happening in other apps as well. In Xbench 1.1.3, the L3 cache speed is reported at 4.15 GHz. L2 cache is reported as 1.25 GHz. I know the L3 isn't running at 4.15 GHz, which may be a software anomaly as well. Hardware Monitor was also reporting strange values at one time, but I can't figure out where at the moment. I'll report back if I find out.

Apple cost cutting: They don't bother testing their software. They let customers report the bugs, and then fix them later.
