I bought a dual 1.8 month or so ago for doing mainly final cut editing, dvd production and some high end graphics manipulation.

I've been quite happy with the machine, but im wondering now if perhaps the stock nvidia video card might be a tad underpowered for what im using all the machine for.

Does anyone thing i'd notice much of a difference from say the 9600 or 9800 ATI cards?

Your graphics card does not influence those apps. Except maybe 2D performance in Photoshop but the difference will be minimal between those cards.

I received a refurb G5 2.0 w/ the N5200 instead of the R9600 as advertised. Apple gave me a discount of $206 for the mistake and surprisingly enough, I think that the N5200 is good enough for everything, even UT2004 at 1600x1200 dpi. So now I am sitting pretty with an additional $200 in my pocket

What you're doing requires a basic video card, anything with 32 megs will run everything QE can do. It will be great until core image comes out and we start seeing apps with it. Then who knows. It will still be compatible though so you're sitting pretty. In a few years if Photoshop is ever updated to use Core Image, or if you use Final Cut Pro and Apple starts (which I imagine they will) putting Core Image stuff into FCP then you might see an advantage in upgrading but either way you should wait because by the time that happens an upgrade card will likely be cheaper than they are now
