Nobody has any solid proof that they've manufactured a single one of these, yet. I wouldn't hold your breath. Prolly early Sept.

What is Apple's usual convention ? Do they supply their stores at the same time as they fill the online orders. ?

some people have fedex tracking numbers for their orders, and should start receiving them tomorrow and thursday - i think it is safe to say that some 2.5's *do* exist. that doesn't mean everyone that ordered is getting theirs, but some definitely are.

We'll know for sure in a couple days, I s'pose. Until I see a pic of one sitting on someone's desk, I will continue to have my doubts.

As far as convention goes, I would expect the retail stores to get them pretty quickly, once they fill the pre-orders, but it's gonna be hit-and-miss on these for a while. iPod minis are still scarce at Apple retail stores. They come in, then they fly off the shelf, then everybody that missed out waits for another week.

While I have no reason to doubt that Apple is in fact shipping DP2.5's that link doesn't actually prove his machine is a DP2.5. No screenshot, no picture of the cooling system, not even a pic of the invoice or box content sticker. The pictures could be of a rev. B DP2.0...

Actually, I take that back. His machine I believe is a DP2.5..
See image #27. There's a metalic mesh you can see at the bottom right of the image along the left-hand side of the processor module. This doesn't exist on any other model. This must be a screen to prevent debris from falling (or being blown) in to the cooling system assembly.

Cool.

I'm flabbergasted that my machine might be here by the time it hits retail when I ordered on June 22nd.

I'm definitely never ordering from a reseller again. I feel like a stepchild right now.

I wish I had a faster route for the box to get to my door than waiting this out. Ugh.

For me it's definitely the last time I ordered from the Apple store. What a bunch of wankers. A lot of promises when you finally get to talk to them, but promises they never keep. And rude they are too!! Just got an email that my duals 2.5 has again been delayed, this time to august 27th, despite a spoken promise (Friday a week ago) that I would have the machine by the 6th at the latest.

So I just covered myself and placed an online EDU order with Apple (even got my better half to toss in a 23" Monitor!)

It will be interesting to see which is available first, the online order or the Retail Store!

At least this way if it takes *forever* for the retail stores to get any stock I should have a Dual G5 by the third week in September...

My first G5! Can't wait!

I don't mind if the retail stores receive units ahead. They are stock units. If you will be ordering stock and there is an Apple Retail store near you, then I would likely order from them and put myself in line. If I order BTO, then I would order online because that would be the same when ordering BTO from the Apple Retail - they will just have me order thru their computer so they get the credit.

Anyway, G5s are shipping in trickles only sadly enough and the ordering system is messed up.

So far I received mine last Friday and I've reported casualty of the Airport Express build defect, which I made them include in the factory. Apart from talking multiple times to Apple Cust, I went to the Apple Retail store and have them check out the unit. Of course the people at the Genius bar had to crowd around the unit first before starting their diagnosis. They said the small wire to connect the AE card to the external antenna was defective. I called AppleCare and I am still waiting for their reply on when they will fix my unit.

There have been two reported G5 casualties (including mine). The other is a fellow forum member whose unit constantly sleeps. We were guessing it could be a failed liquid cooled pump mechanism causing the chips to overheat and thus go to sleep. He had to leave his unit in the Apple store for their diagnosis.

On the other hand I contacted CompUSA in Orange, CT and was informed that unless you place an order, their store will not have 2.5 in stock for at least another month. It does not suprise me since CompUSA was never relible source for Apple products.

I got my 20" Alumnium Cinema display they same day they arrived in stores, so I imagine that synchs up. The person on the phone at store.apple.com was uncertain about the ETA until the shipping notification actually occured.

Just talked to MacMall rep and he told me they will be receiving a shippment of 210 2.5DP any day, he also said there are 380 pre-orders, but he was very optimistic about mass avalibility soon after. Personally I'll be purchasing thru Apple retail store due to educational discount I'm entitled to due to my ongoing studies. If anyone has any info about 2.5 availibility in Apple store locations please posted - it would be interesting if all of them on are the same schedule or they just tell us what we want to hear.

I've just came back from a Apple Reatil store with my brand new G5 2.5DP and 23in cinema display . Interstingly, Cinema display is assembled in China, hovewer the G5 label states "Assembled in U.S.A." prehaps Apple opened another manufacture facility which will produce G5 which means more G5 for Everybody.

CHECK YOUR LOCAL APPLE RETAIL - IT JUST MIGHT BE FASTER

Still on vacation, was driving by Richmond, VA and decided "why not take a chance?" and called the local Apple Store. Amazingly they had taken delivery of their first 2 DP 2.5 G5s just 1/2 hour before my phone call. One of them now belongs to me (along with a 23" monitor) + Applecare . So now I have officially switched! I'm pretty excited. JT
