thinking of getting a dual MDD from some school that's clearing them off.
Liasing person said everything's pre-installed. osX, FCP...yadayadayada BUT there's no system restore discs unfortunately? Are they really necessary? could i get them somewhere else? I was thinking of installing a fresh os over so that all traces of the former user will be completely wiped out. What about this hardware test cd too?
And can i bring a 80gig windows xp partitioned ATA/IDE HDD from my windows pc and attach it to the g4 to use? the g4 already has 60gigs.
i guess the DDRams work the same so there shouldnt be any hiccups.

You can probably live w/o the restore disks, but if your so inclined you might be able to find them on eBay.
As the name implies they restore the system so their usefulness is limited once you upgrade the OS. Which I'd recommend in the first place if Panther (10.3) is not loaded.
I'd be more concerned that you don't have the CDs for the software, side-stepping the whole licensing issue, you may need to install them again.
I'm not 100% sure but I'm guessing that OSX will not natively read NTFS on an internal drive - I could be wrong. I'm basing this on the fact the Apple uses HFS for its file format.

thanks!
i think i could get a new boxed panther quite cheaply. or get it off the net wont stray deeper. So i guess system restore discs aint really that important if i have a set of OS discs that pretty much does the same job? can i boot with those install CDs if there is a problem with the g4?
Unfortunately, my winxp system's HDD is NTFS formatted. But can i still transfer files ( mainly *.avi) from my XP machine to the mac through a router-ed LAN and have them read successfully?
What file system must i reformat my winxp HDD to (supposing i can convert it from NTFS) in order for it to work as a secondary HDD on the g4 mdd.

why cant you just either post something more constructive or just let it be. Anyway, still got some queries unanswered.

Because discussion of software pirating is off-limits here. It is also off-limits at most other major forums. The attitudes here are nothing unique to this forum.
