Hi,

Saturday, I ordered a CTO Rev B Dual 1.8 with an ATI 9600XT vid card. Until I can afford the 20" LCD I would like to use my older Apple 720 CRT display.

I know the G5 comes with a VGA-DVI adapter, but is there anything else I need to connect the G5 to the old monitor?

Apple's website says yes and refers me to part# 922-4201 ( see page http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86504). But that part # is for Powerbooks.

Just trying to be prepared when my baby arrives! First new Mac in 10 years. Still using my PowerMac 7500 with a 233mhz G3 card in it.

Thanks!

The 922-4201 adapter is probably the VGA (male HD15)->Mac video (female DB15) adapter that did ship with the blue G3s, and all the PowerBooks with VGA outputs (at least until the Pismo, inclusive).

Regardless of whoever told you that it's a PowerBook accessory -- that may be true, but assuming it is the part above, it is the right adapter and should work fine.

Similar adapters (by "similar", I mean electrically identical, differing only in the color of the plastic) shipped with various PowerBooks, Power Macs, Apple displays, and Mac graphics cards. Any one of them should work equally well.

One thing to consider...

I'm sure the 20" LCDs are great, but a 20" CRT will save you a TON of cash vs the LCD.
Forget the curveball Rickey, give 'im the heater.
