Hi all...

I bought 512 MB of RAM yesterday, but for the life of me, I could not get the thing into the iMac. I printed out the step by step directions from Mac Help, but no matter what angle I tried, the RAM would not go in. I am hoping that one (or more) of you out there might be able to offer me a clue as to how I can get the RAM into the iMac myself, thereby saving me a trip to CompUSA to get it installed. (The Apple guy at the store said it would be easy!)

Also, in a related story, the external Maxtor HD I've got has not mounted on the desktop since I re-connected it after the RAM debacle. How can I get the Mac to "see" it again?

Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

Puzzled I am by this. Unless you got the wrong type of RAM, taking off the baseplate, inserting it into the slot, and re-screwing the plate takes <5 minutes.
So you are trying to do the simple user addition RAM, are you? Or are you going for the pre-installed Ram, which is a whole other ball game seeing as it needs a serious dismantle.

Simple user addition RAM. The thing just would not go into the slot, and believe me, I tried.

*sigh*

Ok so it's the slot for the extra RAM. You have got the right type of Ram? SDRAM PC100 or133 SODIMM laptop type RAM. With I think 144-pins?

It goes in at a slight angle.

I had the same problem as the person who made the original post, its probably the wrong ram (I had the reseller give me the wrong ram).
CCCC- Serbs should know what that means

Nope, it's the right RAM. I'm going to try installing it again in just a few minutes. Wish me luck...

EDIT: Success! My iMac is now sporting a robust 768 MB of prime US Grade A RAM. Thanks for your replies.
