I have Blue G3 tower. It is a Rev 1. It currently only has one hard drive, an 8 GB SCSI running off a PCI SCSI Card. I think its all OEM SCSI stuff. So this used to be my client's computer. I tried to upgrade it OS X but it didn't work, and he ended up upgrading to a G5 and I got the G3. So as far as I knew, the only issue with the Rev 1 G3's was the built in IDE. Which this machine has completely bypassed by using SCSI. So you think it would run normally. It's Firmware is up to date, and the PCI Card's firmware is also up to date. But alas, this Computer absolutely will not boot OS X. Every OS X install CD I could find, I held down 'C', but it wouldn't see the disc. So fast forward to me, at my house. Now I took the SCSI Hard Drive and SCSI Card out of the haunted G3, and stuck it in another Mac. I installed 10.3 no problem. I booted into it, set up a bunch of prefs, got it ready to go. Then I put it back into the haunted mac. I turned it on, and it actually booted up, right into OS X! Shocking. Buuuuuuut. I opened System prefs. It bounced for a long time, then stopped bouncing. A bunch of other apps did the same thing. Nothing would open. That was the last time it would boot OS X. A reboot after that would just show a solid grey screen. So then I decided I'd install OS 9 so I'd at least have some base to work off of. The machine did, and has always, booted right up into OS 9. Problem is the SCSI drive is now nowhere to be found at all! Doesn't mount and Drive Utility can't see it. Further more, I booted my iBook in firewire mode, and plugged it in, but it was greyed out. But I think G3's can't boot from Firewire can they? So there I am. This computer is haunted, It has an axe to grind against OS X and I don't know why. I think I'm going to try and find a Rev 2 motherboard on ebay and swap it in. Unless someone has any ideas?

Have you checked the pins of the connector at your internal hard drive?
Also check the flat ribbon cable.
A G3 B&W rev 1 has no slave drive support. Check the jumper settings.
