Hi,

I just got a new Rev B Dual Ghz G5 and I have experienced some problems... First, I ordered 1GB RAM from macsales.com (a pair of 512 MB). I should have started up the computer first, but I installed the RAM first, then started up computer. On startup - no chime, weird fan noises, then after 30 seconds the Fans are on full blast. After removing the extra RAM (and pushing PMU reset button) and leaving the factory 512 MB in (2 256 MB sticks), it starts up, but then freezes on Apple boot screen (the screen that used to be a smily Mac). So, I restart. Then it boots fine, but I go into Safari and start changing prefs, when the computer turns off and restarts all by itself.

Restart, and now no problems so far. Should I be worried? Should I exchange? Or could the extra Ram have messed things up for the next 2 restarts without it, but now it's fine?

Apple Hardware test says it's own stock RAM is fine...

Hmm... Not sure what to do. Any thoughts, ideas, explanations?

Thanks!

when you took out the ram did you make sure that the fan was reseated properly? Restarts and freezes are often the sign that something is overheating...

Yah, once I tried lot's of different times with the fan in and out again. I thought it was the 1 Gb of extra Ram that was bad, but then when it crashed at startup and restarted in the middle of Safari, then I got more worried... Any ideas?
Thanks!
