first off i would like to say that apple's phone support sucks! i spent 45 min on my phone with some lady just to do a simple 1 min pmu reset. those tech support people seem to have no idea what they are talking about and just read from a computer screen.. gahhh!!!!! i was furious after that ordeal.

soo thats why im here hoping the real experts can lend me some advice.

i ran the apple hardware test cd and came up with the error code:
2CPU/10/9: CPU0

can anyone please shed some light on what this means?

the problems i am having:

1) my computer seems to run hot, when using "temperature monitor", the CPU die temperatures hover around 150-160 degrees F! i ran the same test on a similar machine at my local apple store and they are getting around 120-125 degrees.

my fans are on but minimal... every once in a while they rev up for just a few seconds.

2) mystery shutdowns... this has happened about 4 times in the past 2 weeks, while surfing the net or not doing anything at all, the computer just shuts down for no reason. kind of like pulling the plug on the machine.

i hit the power button and everything is fine.

i will be monitoring this thread, if i failed to explain anything, please ask and i will post it. i appreciate the help. my computer specs are in my signature.

regards,

steven

Seems from the error code that one of the CPUs is having a problem. Needs to be replaced, most likely. Time to bring it in for service (or have applecare come to you)
