I have an iMac with a slot CD-ROM, 400MHz with Mac OS 8.6.
I bought Mac CD OS X 10.3 from a store and the goal is to get it installed on the above iMac. I do not need any files from my old OS 8.6. I'll choose to format the HDD if it will give me the option.
I boot from the OS X CD, the installation starts fine, I choose the language and then it says that I need a firmware update to install OS X.
I checked Apple web site. There is a firmware update 4.1.9 for my Mac but only runs on OS 9 and not OS 8.6 .
Is there any way I can get the firmware installed without upgrading to OS 9 first? (I don't have the OS 9 CD and I am gonna format the HDD anyway before installing OS X)
Thanks,
Ciup
