got the dual 2.5 last night...now with 2gb ram
first off this thing is FAST, I am very happy
my question is with the fans, I did some gaming last night and knowticed that most of the time it was purring along nicely, yet out of the blue the fans would ramp up high, then simmer down to the normal volume...is this normal?
also I like to run it with the outer shell off (love to look at those G5's) but was reading the manual last night and it said that the cover should always be on, I assume this is for the hard drive heat (which does get very warm) I have seen many pics of people that run with thier outer case off 24/7. Any problem with this?

I have a Dual 2.0, I have those 'spin-ups' as well ... just for a few seconds ...
I also run it with the Al cover off, no problems here. As long as the G5 is well ventilated I think you'll be ok ... but then again, I don't have a Liquid Cooled Dual 2.5 ...
Congrats & enjoy !

I see diner on the table
Personally, I would aim the back of the G5 at the screen, heat can do strange things, speciallly prolonged exposure. I'd pull the front a little more forward, so that the heat coming out the back doesn't blow on your display ...
Here's my setup

I am limited in space but will definatly work something out, maybe a small deflector to move the heat direction a bit

I would vent the heat through a series of ducts running all throughout the length and breadth of your home, a la Brazil.

There were some HDD overheating issues in the Rev A G5's (based on what I gathered here on the forum) so I think Apple now has set the HDD fans to come on earlier to keep the hard drive(s) cooler, to prolongue their life ... I used to have those spin-ups like yours, but haven't had them since 10.3.5 ...
