I have an imac DV that has problems turning on.
First it took me to a screen and I had to type in "mac boot" to get it to turn on.
Now I hit the power button and it flashes onces and turns off. Same thing if I use the key board. The few times I was able to get it to startup I reinstalled the OS (upgraded it) wiped the hard drive before hand.

It didn't work, so I'm thinking that it isn't the hard drive and is something more internal. Anyone have any ideas on what it could be.

Some other problems that I'll mention:
The speakers are shot, turn the volume up any higher than 25% and it gets real crackly, don't know if that has anything to do with the above problem just wanted to make sure anyone helping had all the info

Thanks for any help that can be given

Computer Specs:
333Mhz G3
256MB RAM
10 Gig Hard Drive
Rage 128 Graphics card

The imac belongs to a friend of mine, and she didn't get all the CD's when she bought it. (online auction) She's owned it for quite a while with no problems till now.

Can I use any hardware test CD that I have..say for an emac?

if you are not near an apple store then you could try the emac one coudn't hurt could it?

The hardware test CD with my new eMac does not work properly on my old iMac DV. But give it a try if you have one around.

BTW, you listed the computer as a 333mhz. This is NOT a "DV" series iMac but the 3rd rev of the original iMac. All DV series iMacs had a 100mhz system bus and all clock speeds were integer or integer.5 multiples of that (eg. 350, 400, 450, 500, 600, 700). 233, 266, & 333 iMacs were multiples of the 66mhz bus found on the original iMacs. As far as I can recollect ... Hardware test CDs didn't even exist until the 2nd gen of DV iMacs (my first DV SE 400mhz didn't come with one but my 450 mhz DV+ did). Also of note: the original pre-DV iMacs (which the computer you list seems to be) have the "8gb issue" -- OS X must must be wholly installed on the first 8gb of the drive or problems arise on these models.

Best of luck ...

I think you're right about the hardware test CD Krusty. I've got an iMac DV and it didn't come with one either.

Did she upgrade the RAM on it? Maybe the chip went bad. It sounds to me that it's trying to go through it's self test and is failing. Any sounds from the internal workings when you push the power button?
