I just bought a stock dual 2.5 G5 from my local apple store, and it's awesome - it goes sooo fast and never delays. There is, however, one problem. It's not major but it is a pain: the mouse "sticks." Usually if I leave the mouse untouched for a while, or sometimes if I click to open an application or enter a text field... Once it gets stuck, it just takes maybe a second for the mouse to start moving, but that really bothers me and I don't see why that would happen on such a fast machine :-\.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Thanks

Hmm... I've done some experimenting with my old optical mouse from my previous computer, and it doesn't happen when i use that... Then I put the new mouse back in and it still sticks... So I think the problem is actually the mouse, does that make sense? And the apple store that I bought the computer from wouldn't give me a hard time about exchanging it, right?

Are you using the bluetooth mouse? It may be the result of the mouse entering a temporary power-save mode. (?)

To answer your second question, no. If you have a reproducible issue fixed by a replacement, then there should be no problem.

No, it's the standard apple mouse, not a wireless one. And I went to the apple store today and the problem did not happen on any of the machines there (I tried for almost half an hour). I came home and I tried using a different surface for the mouse (a piece of paper, instead of my desktop), and it works fine. So the problem is the desk surface, which is strange because my older optical mouse runs fine on this same surface :-\.

Oh well, at least I know what's wrong, and I'm going off to college anywhere so I won't be using this desk anymore anyways.
