I was at the Miami Apple Store and saw that they had zero iMacs on display. In fact the only iMacs in the whole store were the ones used as registers. While there went on the net and saw that Mac Zone has no iMacs in stock. With the inventory completely out of the channel you have to think the new G5 will ship immediately once offically announced.
Hmm. might be time to scratch my G5 itch.

I'm pretty sure no stores have any iMacs available because there aren't any anywhere. And second about the G5's coming out right when they're announced, there will almost definetley be HUGE waiting lists for them if they indeed are released then. IBM is having a huge shortage on the G5 chips, and it's worse then they thought before. I don't see how the could possibly meet the demands for the iMac.

I now see that the Online Apple Store shows that they will not have current iMacs available. Yet they state that the new iMacs will be announced and available in September.
Sorry if this is old news but it's pretty clear that some of us will have G5 iMacs in our hands by next month.

I think the key phrase is "some of us". I picture them releasing the iMac and saying it's available "immediatley" and then having humongous backups and everything...but I sure hope not. I can't wait to see what it looks like though... only 8 more days!

Maybe there is such a shortage of G5 chips is because of the secret production of the imac G5.

Most of the preorders that are causing headaches for Apple are the 2.5 GHz models. Supplies of the 1.8 and 2.0 models are tight as well, but I suspect that Apple has been setting aside chips around that range to make sure that they can be used for the iMac G5. They probably know that it would be a bad idea to delay the iMac if it can be avoided: there have already been a lot of supply problems this year (just ask anyone who tried to get an iPod mini), and Apple probably doesn't want to risk damaging any holiday sales potential.

doesn't this seem like really bad timing? I'd imagine that a lot of imac sales are back to school sales, and if you can't buy one in august or september.
whiff..

We seem to have bought out all the stock Ingram Micro had of 20" iMacs as soon as Apple took them off the current list..
We have 6 left in our Sarasota Florida store if anyone is interested..
