I recently upgraded my Dual 500 to a Dual 1.3 and now am intersted in upgrading the video card. I have a chance to get a GeForce 4Ti for a song but have heard that there are some power issues with the 2x AGP in the Mystic PowerMacs and the consumption of power of the Ti card. Would anyone be able to elaborate or have experience with the older PowerMacs and the newer vid cards? Could there be a way to increase the power that goes into the card?

My GeForce 2MX just doesn't cut it.

Thanks

Apple says you need a Mac with the extra "power knob" that plugs into the mobo the would normally power ADC monitors. You'd be fine if you don't use an ADC monitor, or yo could go buy the DVI to ADC converter and it would power an ADC monitor from an outlet. I had a GeForce 4 ti in my 500mhz Sawtooth and it was fine.

Interesting...so, for example, I have a 15" Apple Flat Panel (ADC) and I happen to have the DVI to ADC connector. To make this work with my machine I would use the adapter to take the monitor into the DVI port of the GeForce Ti card and negate using the ADC connection? Am I understanding this correctly?

My GeForce2MX utilizes the ADC with my display but I'm guessing the Ti will consume quite a bit more power, thus the need for that DVI to ADC connector.

I think you got it, but if your Mac already has the "Power Knob" and can power the monitor itself with no adapter the GeForce 4ti should work otherwise use the DVI to ADC adapter and plug the DVI port into the GF4 and the Monitor into the adapter. Since the adapter draws power from your electricty and not the Mac PS it will power the ADC monitor. I'm trying to make sense

Also despite what Apple says, the card can power a VGA monitor in any AGP equipped Mac
