Anyone have saw this?, my friend got today two identical G5 configs,
specs:
2.5 GHz Dual G5
8 GB RAM
2*250 GB HD
ATI 9800XT SE
one of the G5s shows under ASP only one cpu, same goes with Activity Monitor, shows only one CPU bar.
I think that one of the CPU could be seated incorretly, but how the hell happened that? and more important, how could my friend place it right!?
Great dissapoinment since he is waiting to get the 30" display he bought with the G5s
Advice really welcome.

Had that happen with a Dual 1.8 that wound up having a bad cpu/logic board. As far as I know both cpus are on the same daughtercard underneath the liquid cooling contraption which probably removes the poor seating possibility. I'd call Apple ASAP and get it declared DOA.

Each processor is on it's own daughtercard in the G5s. In the G4, they shared one.

You don't have Apple's Dev tools installed and/or CHUD? Apple's CHUD will allow you to turn a CPU on and off in a dual system. You could install CHUD, if it wasn't and see if it inadvertantly was turned off. It can't hurt at this point but I agree it may be a dead CPU in which case it's gonna go back to Apple.
