So... should I get the new dual 1.8 or the Rev A dual 1.8 machine, both are 1999.00. The Rev A indeed seems like a better value, but is there anything falwed with the first batch of machines that should warrant me to just go with Rev. B?

Thanks for any tips.

This has been discussed a bunch on here, basically the Rev. A is a better machine as it has higher specs (larger HD, 8 RAM slots, PCI-Express.) That being said, I bought a Rev. B since I'd rather have a newer machine, and I could get a better deal on it.

The only existing problem that I can remember is some noise on the analog audio, but I'm unaware of how often this happens, and if it still exists with the Rev. Bs.

I'd say go with the Rev A. Make sure it has a warranty, and that you can return it if you don't like it.

Just to clarify something:

The Rev.A DP 1.8 G5's do NOT have PCI-Express, but rather PCI-X. I'm not aware of any PCI-X only cards so I think it's appeal is limited to those few who actually need it. PCI-Express is not yet available for any Mac. Also, the Rev B DP 1.8's have a faster Superdrive. Which is someting to consider. The other differences are valid and how important they are is up to the individual.

Not all rev.A DP 1.8s have the slower superdrive. Some in fact were shipped with the faster.

Not sure, check ClubMac.com, or PowerMax,etc.

I bought my Rev B DP 1.8 G5 through the online Apple Store using my wife's educational discount. The price of the standard DP 1.8 was $1799.

Yup, I mis-spoke, it is PCI-X, not PCI-Express. And the newer Rev A's do have the same drive that the Rev Bs come with.

Also, if you buy a Rev. B you have the option of customizing it. Just a thought.

As stated by the reasons above, it is up to you. I myself went for the refurbished 1.8 Rev B from Apple for $1700
