I have used macs since they first came out. The last Imac was beautiful - elegant, adjustable, eye-catching and cute. This is just a box with a bottom heavy asthetic. I am sure it will be a great machine - but macs for me have always been things of beauty. this looks ordinary. Glad I bought a g5 now which I am not that keen on either for looks, but the screen - a 20 inch old style plastic with lines just wows everyone. Was this designed by Jonathan Ives, or his apprentice? Would you be happier if it was top heavy?

Agree with you Sman55. Apple's design team took a vacation on this one.

Just goes to show how personal opinion can affect your "judgement" on a machine. I always thought the G4 iMac was about the ugliest computer I had ever seen. I'm glad to see it out of the Apple product line and I think the new one will offer the consumer line much more credibility.

I like the look of the new iMac, and I absolutely LOVE the concept - not only is it one-piece, light, portable (not notebook portable but moving it around is not much fuzz), it's looks much more solid than the G4 one and by the way - IT HAS A G5 PROCESSOR. So the processor we've had reports about being almost unable to keep cold without a heatsink the size of a full-grown midget has been incorporated into a LCD monitor. And people are losing their minds over a few inches of computer below the monitor? I think we Apple users are getting rather spoiled.

The look of the iMac is rather retro I must admit, but I think you are looking at it with the same eyes you view the PowerMacs and PowerBooks - but look at the iMac next to the iPod and the iBook and it fits the consumer line perfectly.
"I'm not exaggerating baby.. it's 17 inches!"

If you used Macs since they first came out you would have spelled it "iMac" and not "Imac" but that's beside the point. What difference does it make where the weight of the machine is allocated so long as it's top or bottom? It sits vertically and even if you have to carry it (and that would be only a short time) that wouldn't make a difference either.

Ordinary? It's suppose to mimick the iPod. It's a clean design. Did you want a flower to spring from the top of it?

i read on CNet that it was designed by the iPod team.. would that mean that JarJar Ives or whuttever the phuck his name is had no part in creating the new imac?

Crafted by the same team of designers as the iPod, the new iMac G5 picks up where previous iMacs left off--with a simpler design and a smaller footprint.

No, Ives designed the latest. It has his signature all over it. Minimal and utilitarian.

I would of liked the 20" model's bezel to be smaller and anodized. It would of been nice to stick a 2 ghz processor in it and call it the 20th Anniversary Mac.

let's see it in person before we past final judgement on this thing. i remember thinking the 4g was ugly when i first saw it .. and i mean .. ugly ugly .. now i think it looks pretty nice. i still prefer 3g but heck.

first reaction to the new iMac? Woah .. unoriginal .. they just stole the cinema display's lines... but now .. it's not all that bad .. the thick bottom does bother me a bit .. but i dont care about the huge iMac on the back .. as i'll never be staring at the back of the display anyways ... errr .. the back of the computer anyways. i liked and continue to like the desklamp design ... the footprint was fine .. and the hinge .... wow .. dreamy .. the bezel was uniform .. but hey .. g5, cheaper ... gotta see it in person.
