Hi Guy`s,
I thought that it was a bad idea to mount a disc drive vertically?
And how on earth can you change the HD ( you know they quit first).
I would rather have seen a small area just below the screen for the disc drives HD and a TRAY LOADING "super-drive".
I don`t have much faith in those "slot load" jobs
I have a slot load iMac and have had to replace the CD drive once already and I`m on my 3rd HD.
So we must look "down the road" so to speak !!
Just my thoughts

There's really no problem have a CD or a hard drive on the side. The CD would need some sort of retaining clips of some sort to keep the cd from falling out.

Regarding replacing the hard drive, I could be wrong, but that hasn't been a user replaceable item on the iMac for a while. If that's the case then the point is moot.

Hi Mike,
I have an old...iMac ( gum-drop / lime )
And on those you can change the HD in about 15 min.
But the slot drive failed while under warranty.
I just heard that cd`s and such should be mounted horiz. , that`s all
Thanks for the info
Gary

I have not investigated it too much, but it looks like we finally have access to the entire machine, which means a hard drive will be an easy swap. Am I interpreting the internal pictures and access incorrectly?

Mike
Other then the fact that the CD drive is slower then the previous iMac's. Just like Steve said would happen if they did something stupid like post the CD drive vertically.

I would think that would only be a problem on tray-loading devices. A slot-loading device should suck the CD just fine. Now whether it rattles around once inside is another discussion.
