I live in NYC, so I have Tekserve and Soho Apple Store to test drive the new iMac G5.
Usually it seems to take anywhere from a day or two to two weeks for them to get a display model up.
When someone out there actually plays with one in person, let us know the verdict.
I bet this design will grow on all of us. Right now I'm a bit disappointed with all the extra plastic below the screen, but we'll see.
I loved the new Apple Displays and so wanted it to follow suit. It's close.
Anyway, let us know when / where you see the iMac G5 for the 1st time.

According to a CNET article, display models are already up in the San Francisco store.

So anyone find a display model yet?
I called the Apple Store and was told around Sept 12. Tekserve just said mid-September.
I understand (sort of) not having them available immediatley for purchase (of course Apple seems like the worst offender of this than any company I've ever seen), but shouldn't they have at least one for display to get buyers like me to buy them up.
Seeing in on the website gives a good idea, but I need to play with any major purchase over 100 bucks before buying.
Not to mention I think the SoHo NYC store might be the most popular one they have.
It just doesn't make much business sense. If they can get them to Paris, why can't they can't one to their flagship stores so to speak.

A guy at the Apple store in Palo Alto told me September 12th. I'm guessing this is when they'll start displaying them at most Apple stores, and maybe resellers too. My guess: they don't they don't want to create too much demand before they start shipping the thing.

What I'm waiting for is a media blitz. One reason the iMac took off was because Apple made sure to saturate the market with info about it. The iMac G4, on the other hand, barely got much more than a single TV ad and a magazine cover - not nearly what Apple had for a PR blitz with the original.

The question are they actually going to advertise the product or is it going to be some guy sticking his tongue out.
You know they still haven't released a single commercial for OS X. It's rediculous how bad their marketing department is. Sad thing is that it's all Steve's fault.
