Hi, I am going to preorder the new iMac but shortly after I am going to add a 250gig drive, I will then take out the 160gig it comes with and use it for a backup drive externally using a firewire enclosure, is there a specific type I need for serial ATA and will it take advantage of the extra speed from serial ata?
Also if this will work, can you recommend some nice looking enclosures. Ones that match the iMac would be nice.

Well, you'll need a FW case that supports SATA drives. I don't know of any off-hand, although I do recall seeing one that was USB2.
I was going to do this as well but finally decided to get the internal 250. I don't want to clutter my desk any more than I have to.

Will the internal hard drive be easy to remove? My brother did surgery on our father's old grape iMac 400 MHz to swap out the hard drive. I notice that the back comes off of this one. Will the hard drive be difficult to swap? If not, I will definitely drop my dream of a Dual G5 and pick up one of these.

I'm not so sure we'll know until someone actually gets their hands on one, but it looks to me like it shouldn't be that difficult. Can't be nearly as bad as the iBook.

Two atoms were talking one day. One atom said to the other "you know, I think I've lost some electrons." The other atom said "are you sure?" The atom said "yeah, I'm positive." www.thisoldpodcast.com

I found the KB article on the iMac G5:

You can install the hard drive youself.
