All you guys who are gonna but the new iMac, i'm just curious, are you going to buy the BT Keyboard + BT Mouse + BT Module? I have never used a apple key or mouse before. I know that the Module is a build to order so I'm figuring out if i should get it. The iMac would look much nicer with the wireless stuff. hum...
Hey, if you were a hotdog and you were starving would you eat yourself????? I know I would, first i'd smuther myself with brown mustard and relish, i'd be so delecious. So would ya....?

I definitely want the built-in BT.

Since the BT module is $ 50, and the whole bundle BT+keyboard+mouse only $100, I'll be going for that.

The mouse I won't use, not enough buttons.
I guess I'll be selling it on eBay...

it is a pretty good deal compared to getting a BT module+BT keyboard/mouse after the purchase.

$100 for wireless keyboard, mouse, and module is a pretty good deal at today's prices, I'd say. Not a bad deal, anyway.

I believe you can put in a bluetooth adapter later on, though I'm not entirely sure. A little searching should answer... I think you can add it yourself later, though.

I wonder where some nice Logitech or other mice that are bluetooth supported are at, though...

Not of my knowledge.
Apple doesn't sell internal BT modules, only the external USB sticks...

My thoughts :-

You can't add an internal BT module later, but there are external one's that work just as well. I have one plugged into my USB hub.

I have also got an Apple BT Mouse, which I tried for 2 months, in the end though I went back to the wired mouse. I found the BT Mouse too heavy and preferred the feel of the original mouse. That's not to say it is rubbish, I just did not get on with it.

I have therefore not opted for the BT pack with the iMac G5, I was tempted as it was a great price, but I then remembered that I would not have a wired keyboard and mouse to go back to if I did not like them.

It's a good deal due to the fact that the original Keyboard and Mouse will be removed, i.e.

Apple Keyboard $49 + Apple Mouse $49 = $98

Apple Wireless Keyboard $69 + Apple Wireless Mouse $69 + Bluetooth Option $50 - $188

Difference = $90

Apple charge = $99

Does it still look like a great deal ?

Yes, I'd get it. It should be standard on all Macs.

What about the batteries for these things?
How long do they last?

I like the idea...but not the thought of remembering to turn them off every night!

You don't need to turn them off.

After a while of inactivity they shut off themselves, but wake up as soon as you use them again.

How many sets of batteries can I expect to go through in a year, though? And will regular NiMH rechargeable AA batteries hold the charge long enough so I can go, say, a month without recharging the batteries? I've looked around but haven't found any time quotes.

I didn't order the BT option. While the price is certainly good, I just don't like the thought of using batteries. And I still haven't seen any BT mice that I like. I decided to put the money towards more RAM.

I wish the mouse was an option or at least a deduct option. Who wants a one button mouse?

What kind of weirdo math is that ?
You are comparing Apples and Oranges.

A wireless keyboard costs $ 20 more than the wired keyboard.
A wireless mouse costs $ 20 more than the wired mouse.
A BT module costs $ 50.

Added costs for wireless: $ 20 + $ 20 + $ 50 = $ 90.

I you buy it BTO you pay $ 100, but that essentially just means that Apple "buys back" you wired keyboard and mouse for "only" $90, instead of a new $ 100.

If you will be able to sell the wired keyboard and mouse for more than $ 90, than yes, BTO is a bad deal. In all other cases, you are saving money.

Got it ?

I think you need to do the math!!

You said 'Added cost for wireless' = $90 and Apple charge $100, how is that cheaper?

Basically they charge $9 more to swap you wired keyboard and mouse for a BT module, BT Keyboard and Mouse.

That's assuming Apple are giving you the full $49 each value for the wired items.

Hi

In the Uk Apple charge £69.99 for the Bluetooth Module, Wireless Keyboard & Wireless Mouse.

Bluetooth Module costs £35 leaving £34.99 and if the Wireless Keyboard costs £20 more than the Wired Keyboard likewise the Mouse which = £40

In the UK it is a good deal.

In all other cases, you are saving money, hence, it is CHEAPER !

I think, you basically meant the same.
The main question is, how much value you attach to the "free" wired keyboard and mouse that you get w/o BTO BT.

BlueTooth rocks; the lack of wires is definitely worth it.

Apple`s BT keyboard is OK, but for the mouse I prefer the Logitech MX900 Bluetooth Optical Mouse.

Apart from the multiple buttons & scroll wheel, the best thing about it is that there are not batteries to change; it comes with a BT cradle, which recharges the internal battery.

As you can get the iMac with an internal BT module, you don`t need to use the Logitech cradle as a BT basestation; just plug it into the mains power, and use it as a recharging station.

Just ordered my "wireless" 20" with airport extreme, and the bluetooth package. I find 100 €/$ a reasonable deal (since you'll never sell the wired kb+mouse for their retail value).

The main reasons: (a) to avoid the mess extra cables, and (b) while an external BT adapter is fine on a tower, it'll look naff on the back of the iMac. Also, since it's for home use, I can imagine situations where several people are in front of the mac, and it might be nice to sit further from the screen, or move the kb/mouse around.
