So from the looks of it, the iMac case is made from the same shiny white plastic that the fronts of the iPods and the iBooks are made out of, instead of the textured white plastic found in the G4 iMac!
Frankly, I think this plastic is very cheap looking and feeling, not to mention the fact that it picks up fingerprints instantly. I think they could have done much better aesthetically and functionally if they had gone with the textured white plastic of the G4 iMac.
Though, that won't prevent me from picking one up.
What do y'all think?

Disagreed, shiny things look better than matt things. I've seen G3 and G4 iMacs, and the dome material of the G4 isn't nice, older display models in PC World the last time I went started to look dirty (they were 15" models with the Garamond typeface 'iMac' on the screen border, not sure why they were still even on display, but there you go). Shiny surfaces are easier to keep clean than a textured finish, because dust and dirt gets into the texture pattern. My G4 is 3 now, and still looks as good as new after I put the duster over it.

I expect the new G5 to be shiny (correction, glossy).
I agree that the matte finish collects dirt.

Yup. I almost bought one of the G4s but saw it in the store and noticed how the matte surface was attracting grime. Glad I waited: the new machines should be better and certainly have a simpler, more elegant appearance that shouldn't "date" too quickly ... ordered my 20" G5 today

As I understand it, the new iMac is not made of the same material used in the iBook. Its a 2 part material with a white plastic and a clear layer, probably like the old ibook 500-700.
