I work at a school, there is an imac that won't boot to the imac cd. The HD is locked?? I don't know macs very well. any ideas??

They may have turned on the Open Firmware password to prevent the machine from booting from anything other than the internal hard drive.

The iMac may also have a bad optical drive.

We need more details about what you are seeing and exactly what is happening.

I got it. Been learning a lot lately. I tried a 9.2.1 disc and it boot to the CD(was using a 9.0 before, i think). Then I intialized and reimaged it. everything is good
