the new imac G5 has come out and i am trying to decide to get a powermac or imac. I want the keeping up with everything time span to be long. Could anyone give some advice?

I'd recommend a PowerMac then ... better upgradeability (memory, HD, GPU ...) would in my eyes make it more future-proof.

How long do you plan on keeping your computer, what's your budget and what arey you planning use the computer for.

All in all the iMac is a very capable computer but if your planning on keeping it for more then a few years, then the PM is better as its more upgradable. If your using pro tools, to work on video or then the PM again is probaby better because of its dual cpu and larger hard drive.

Realistically, you can get 3 years out of a iMac and 4+ years out of a PowerMac.

The extra year and a half would come from updated drives, video, ram and having a second processor.

That being said, the PM is 2x the price.
