I just bought a new drive today, for a total of 3 drives in my 933.
I moved one of my old drives to the ATA 33 bus, underneath the DVD Burner. Its only for storage, so I dont care about the speed.
The 2 drives on the ATA 66 bus work fine, and they both show up. They are both set to Cable Select.
When I start up the computer with both the DVD burner and the drive on the same ATA 33 bus connected, none of them show up.
The Pioneer is set to Master by default, and the drive I moved there is set to slave.
When I disconnect the cables to drive #3, and start up, the DVD shows up fine once again.
I am thinking this is a jumper problem. Should I set both the DVD burner and the drive to Cable select ?
Should I put the drive to master, and the DVD to slave ? Anybody put a drive together with the DVD burner on the ATA 33 bus before ?
thanks

I suppose not many have put a harddrive in the "zip" space I assume then.
I'll just figure it out myself, I suppose. Mathematically, there can't be that many combinations. I just have to buy a few more of those little plastic jumpers, and I'll get both the DVD burner and harddrive to play nice with each other, eventually.

Post if you can get the third drive working. I've got a 933 and wouldn't mind sticking in a third cheap HD.

A few things that may or may not help but I'll throw them out there anyway.
The Quicksilvers are supposed to use Master/Slave rather than Cable Select. Obviously, Cable Select works at least to some extent but wasn't officially supported until the MDDs.
The 2002 QS models, including the 933, have undocumented support for 48-bit LBA, i.e. large drive support. But only in OS X (OS 9 won't see all of the drive), and I would assume only on the main ATA bus, not the ATA/33 bus. How big is the hard drive on the ATA/33 bus?
I have noticed some discrepancies between what is marked on the drive and what you may find in online documentation with jumper settings on some brands of drives. Sometimes it can be hard to determine how the jumpers are really supposed to be placed, and it may take some trial and error. I suspect the hard drive as master and optical as slave won't work, but it may be worth try.

I already have it working on the ATA 33 bus. Only thing is, I have not gotten both the DVD and Drive to work, when both connected to that bus. I can have one or the other, but not both at the same time yet.
I am hoping the cable select mode on both, will do the trick. I need to pick up a few more jumpers to test this out first.
Once I get that working, there is still room for two more drives. I am going to pick up a pair of Serial ATA and place them on the bottom. 5 drives - 1 Terrabyte or more of space, cant wait.
And yeah, Ill post, when I get it working. Just need to head out to my local radio shack or something. They better carry those jumpers.

The drive I placed on the ATA 33 bus is a small 60 gig. That's the smallest drive I have, so I kept the big ones on the ATA 66, and just moved the 60 gig to the ATA 33.
As for the cable select not being supported, I was unaware of that, but that shouldn't affect what is happening on the ATA 33 bus, which is seperate I assume.
That's not good news though, because at the moment, the DVD = master, and the drive = slave. Besides swapping that order, I don't see what other choice I have, if cable select won't work on the ATA 33.

Not sure what the problem could be. I have 3 drives in my Quicksilver, and they all show up. Make sure your startup volume is set to master, and the others to slave. Never tried cable select.
Did you run Disk Utility?

It's almost certainly a master/slave jumper-related problem.
Both drives disappearing when connected to the same channel is a common symptom.
There is no difference in performance or speed between the master & slave connections, by the way, so feel free to switch the drives around.

My update for today: Radio Shack blows. . . . .
I just came back from there, after first checking on their website to see if that particular store had the jumpers. Answer = Yes...........Get to store: Answer = No
I suppose I'll go to CompUSA tommorow and pick them up there.

My final update: Everything now works !
I finally found a place where they sold these jumpers and bought a pack.
Another problem was I was changing jumpers after I had already installed the drive in the zip slot, and it was a bit hard to get to, and the Seagate drive had this cheap, midget jumper already set to MASTER, which I never even saw until today. So I was basically having two jumpers in when I thought there was only one.
Anyhow, I now have the DVD burner set to slave, and the seagate set to master, and they both show up fine. I assume it will also work fine, if I switch the master/slave settings, but the cheap midget seagate jumper is a bitch to get out, so I'll just leave 'em the way it is.

Oh, just one more small thing:
My 250 gig does indeed show up just fine when booting up in OS9. All 238 gigs of it, that is.
