I was told from a friend of mine who works at WestFarms Apple store in Connecticut that the G5 iMac are in stores now. Available in display and in stock, too!

Darn I was going to start this thread! I just got back from the apple store in Osaka, and I can say that yes, there are G5 iMacs in stores and for sale. I even have a photo on my webpage of some iMacs in action.

I'd put more photos up, but its not worth the effort. You all know what they look like.

Wow, looking at your Blog photos, it's funny how the store displays these iMac's with bluetooth mice and keyboards, I would think they'd be more prone to being stolen (at least here in L.A.).
NOW YOU SEE ME! 2.4 MBP and 2.0 MBP (running ubuntu)

Hmm, how snappy™ are these new iMacs? On a scale of less snappy™ to super snappy™?

They did this at MWSF too, but I would have worried more there. At the stores, they have an interesting surveilance system. Basically, it has the ability to 'keep track' of people and whether they purchase anything or not.

Essentially it's a system called shoppertrack. I bet it could be slightly modified to track stolen goods, too

Just came back from the Boston Northsore Apple store.
IMacs came in last night (Wednesday 9/15). They had a 17" up & running and a 20' still being set-up with all the software goodies.

Played around with the 17" and was immediately intercepted by a sales guy who simply wouldn't stop telling me how great it was.
(Still) Made the decision to get one, although online and BTO (1.8 Ghz w/ BT - upgrade the RAM separately, prob. with a 512MB stick from Crucial).

Thought the 20" looked better (less overwhelmed by the white space on the bottom), but the other half intervenes on the budget
IMac, therefore I am.

17" IMac G5, 1.8Ghz, 80GB HDD, Bluetooth, 768MB RAM

The Apple store South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa has a 20" model on the floor.
I thought it looks nice, but didn't get to play with it to see if it performs better
enough then my Powerbook to justify buying it. I would for sure order online
to get the Bluetooth package and avoid all the wire clutter.

The casing looks like the original 5GB iPod. The design is so minimal that I think
the environment you place it in is going to make or break it for looks.
MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.7), 1.6 GHz, Core i5, 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3, 128 GB SSD, 24" LED ACD, 1TB Time Capsule (late 2009), IOS4 ATV, 16GB iPhone 4

I would say they're medium snappy. They do do have BT mice and keyboards, but oddly they also have D-link BT USB dongles on their backside. No built in BT for the display models.

I should also say that there were 2 security guards in the store, and a whole lot of employees. So I would not advice trying to steal anything.

The Phoenix, AZ store (Biltmore) has a 20" on display. I didn't get a chance to play with it as it was surrounded by a drooling mob. I was thinking that they would start prostrating at any moment...

I personally am still not crazy about the design after seeing it in person, but I'm happy for all of you who do like it and are getting your new machines. Enjoy!!
