Hey All,
I'm planning on purchasing a new iMac G5 in the near future, and have an idea of what the perfect iMac G5 desk would look like. I've created a mockup below of what I have in mind. My question is - does anyone know where to get something like this? Note the oddly shaped top to accommodate the keyboard and mouse without adding unnecessary fat around the back. If anyone has any good alternatives, that works too. Thanks! - Cory

In my house that iMac would be on the floor in minutes, unless I barricaded that desk somewhere far out of the traffic flow.

Hmm. Either your house has a freeway running through it, or you have children
I probably made the base too small. But damn it, if gravity allows the iMac itself to stand on such a small base, then a desk like this shouldn't topple over too easily. It should probably be a wee bit shorter, also. Anywho, it's just an example of what I'm looking for

It would fall over and it doesn't matter if the imac can do it because the reason that the imac can do it is because its centre of gravity is about 6 inches the tables center of gravity is about 30 inche's(with the imac).

That looks very IKEA-esque (if there's such a word). Finding what you modeled might be tough, but I think there may be a couple of early candidates:
The Adjusta Unit: http://www.anthro.com/_FS_AdjustaUnit.asp
And the SpacePal: http://www.anthro.com/_Ac_SpacePal.asp
Admittedly they don't have that single stand, but the general shape seems to be what you'd like. And you can choose your colour!
Personally, I'd get a largish, light-coloured wood desk (almost like an Apple store's). Bright colours seem to suit the iMac G5 best.

Commodus,
Thanks for the links! I like the short SpacePal desk. It's very close to what I'm looking for, but with a price of $200, I'm going to keep looking around. That thing should be $50, tops. Anthro makes really cool stuff, but their prices make me think they're mining the tunnels of Mars for their building materials

It looks like a kiosk stand.
You might want to look at the corner table in this thread.
The guy said that he got it at OfficeMax.

What's perfect about this? No room for a printer or to sit your camera for transferring pictures, external burner or HDD and no room for jotting down notes. What's the point of having a desk that will only satisfy the computer and no room for anything else and unless that stand weighs at least 100 LBS you can count on that beauty hitting the floor the first time you jerk the cord accidentally.

Hey guys, remember that this was just a concept image. I don't think anyone would be so unreasonable as to assume that it's either that or nothing.

Maybe I wasn't very clear. I'm not trying to sell anyone on this desk design, I'm just wondering where I can get a desk like this. This desk would be perfect for me.
I'm aware that I may not have created the proportions correctly to assure stability. I was just going for the general shape. However, I was at a Mall Restaurant this past weekend and in their food court were tables identical to this, except the tops were perfectly round. The base was much smaller than one would expect, and it was very stable. Go figure.
As for the lack of room for any additional "gubbins' and gizmos", that's precisely the point my dear boy. I've got a huge honkin' desk right now, and my poor G4 iMac is constantly surrounded by junk. Car Keys, loose change, bills, soda cans, etc. A desk small enough to only accommodate the iMac would assure a beautiful clean look, because I wouldn't be able to surround it with junk
Of course this wouldn't be my only desk. I'd still have a full-size work desk elsewhere for paperwork, drawing, and so on. Consider this one as more of a "display stand" for the beautiful G5 iMac
Oh, and unlike the iMac G5, this desk would have an upgradeable GPU Thanks for all your replies. If anyone thinks of another similar desk, please let me know. Thanks!

Actually the top on the one I saw wasn't large enough to comfortable accommodate the mouse and keyboard side by side. But it was close

I don't think its very practicall, you would be sitting down with the tube between your feet, which IMO would make it extremely uncomfortable.
I think this one would look great

As cool as it looks, I wouldn't dare trust that with my beautiful iMac. I have had one system fall off a similar looking desk before. They look great, but aren't that practical, even more so when you have children.
