I just got myself a new 20" G5 iMac. I love it so much and check it out:
http://homepage.mac.com/mattklusza/PhotoAlbum17.html
Anyway, today I noticed some slow up on iMac. I donno why? I thought 1.8 Ghz will do? I'm still not sure what's going on, am I missing something?
(Running on 1.8 Ghz, 256 MB and AirPort Extreme)

Get more ram! You should have a minimum of 512MB. 1GB if possible. Don't buy the top line iMac and underpower it with too little ram. Also run Software Update and then Repair Permissions. By the way, your link doesn't work, so we can't be jealous of what we can't see.

Nice, I would agree it needs more ram, if it's really slow must be that shitty graphics card! Looks great, enjoy!

Rams your problem. It is going slow because it is using the hard drive in place of ram for virtual memory which is about 1/40th of the speed of ram so that would be your limitation. Enjoy.

Get more ram, at leat 1 GB RAM, the machine will be lot faster.
BTW, I just bought a iMacG4/20" and added 1 GB RAM module in it, I am now very happy with it.

Yeah, I get it. I will get more ram near in the future. I love the styling when I first put it on my desk and it looks soo simple and clean. It helps my desk looks more cleaner and organized!

Get ram in the near future? Get it now. Sell a kidney or a kid or something.

WOW congrats! I went to my local store this afternoon with my friend and we were looking at the iMac and then all the sudden both of us felt dizzy, and started seeing white all over! So we had to leave the store to breath some air, we came back and we were fine again.

That's very rude, there's no reason to rain on his parade. Some people just don't know to add more ram. That's ridiculous that the reason for his brand new G5 to be a bit sluggish is because of the nvida card. I saw the new iMac at a local Apple store today too and that thing is so gorgeous and powerful you will totally set aside small things like the GPU when you play with this speedy wonder.
Say something nice and make someone feel good about their Mac purchase. The Mac community is already a small percentage of the computer world. It's obvious the GPU didn't kill his flavor for buying the computer stop being rude and hatin'.

According to G5 tech docs on Apple the machine supports dual channel memory; that is when same sized and specced DIMMs are installed 2x256Mb, 2x512Mb or 2x1Gb then accesses to memory will be faster.
So adding a single 1Gb DIMM alongside the 256Mb isnt optimising the performance.
Typically running dual channel memory gets you a 5-25% boost in memory bandwidth, though I've yet to see benchmarks for the iMac G5 in this configuration.

That's true, but people here are suggesting to get more RAM for the simple fact that OS X needs at least 512MB to run decently w/o swapping itself to death. That's why more RAM = better performance. Of course, using two identically spec'd DIMMs will add even more to that gain due to dual channel access. But, in case this guy can't afford two DIMMs, getting just more memory will do quite some good already.

How in the hell was that rude? He said "nice" and he agreed with other posters that it needed more RAM. And he is right that the new Macs have a shitty graphics card. Don't be so sensitive.

Calling it a shitty graphics card is purely by opinion only especially since there has been no game tests ran on the iMac from a "home users" standpoint yet.
The reason I said he was being rude and he was, is because the poster said his computer was running sluggish and this GeForce FX 5200 crap is getting pretty tired. The person who replied was just throwing that in to add fuel. This graphics card cannot possibly slow down performance on a G5 unless he was playing some 3D game with high system requirements.
Someone on this forum gets something new and feels excited enough to post pics and has one tech question and someone has to reply with a negative remark that doesn't apply to the situation just because they are not happy with what Apple stuck in the machine.
For the record, how would you like it if you just bought your dream $40,000 car and several people were saying that you got a nice car with a shitty color? That would kill your excitement.

It's obvious that Apple cares about what they sell or their computers wouldn't be so asthetically pleasing. OSX is also as asthetically pleasing as it is intuitive and functional. Every company is going to cut a corner or 2 two make the prices as attractive as the current features.

Did you check how much RAM was in the demo machines? The Apple store Westfarms have their iMac G5s set up with 512MB RAM. It would seem that Apple knows 256MB RAM isn't enough if they won't even set up their demo machines with such a small amount.
