I want to install OSX on two different hard drives in my old G4 from my new G5. I think I read that I can use target disk mode in OS9 (if I have the right FW version), but how can I choose which drive? Can I see them both at once, or is this only for the "startup" disk?

should be able to see both drives. I know it you put a G5 into target disk mode the machine turn is one big hub, meaning every drive in and connected to the machine will show up. Even CD/DVDs in the drive appear, which was a suprise.
Not sure about G4 but. All I can say is try it. Can't hurt since the drive names appear correctly so just be careful making sure you pick the correct drive

when I put my G4 into target disk mode, only one drive shows on the other computer. the startup drive. I haven't done any testing or anything to see why this is or if it can be changed.
If you want to install something on two drives or more, I'd make an image of it in disk utility, then transfer that image over to the other machine. Start up the other machine as normal and use the image to install. This saves on some transfer time and means you only need to be able to see one drive to get it to work.

Hey, I didn't know that. I've never had reason to put my G5 in to Target Disk Mode, but that's handy to know. Nifty!
