Hi
Well after a year or so of deliberating on what to buy i decided on the following machine
20" iMac
1GB of Memory
Bluetooth Module, Keyboard & Mouse
Airport Extreme Card
3 year Apple care
.Mac
Personally i think it is the best value Mac on the market and has more power than i will ever utilize.
I'm getting it at a fantastic price here in the U.K - (i know someone with clout). Pictures will follow when i recieve it & have a fantastic solid oak table to place it on which you will all like.
B_2
the countdown begins.

Parky
When did you order yours and when are you expecting delivery? I may get mine fairly quick via my influential friend but only time will tell.
One things for sure when the iMac arrives the Windows box goes in the bin, damn thing is so noisey, but funny as it may seem, while i was revising for my University finals last year i had to switch it on as i could not revise without the noise! got a 2:1.

Fine choice - and looking better every day as the very impressive photos and reports come in.
As you're in the UK, a subscription to MacUser magazine will help pass the time before the arrival of the new baby!

Congratulations B_2! I am sure you will be happy with the purchase. My Macs are one of the few technology purchases that I can look back on with absolutely no regrets. Be sure to post again with pictures when you get it all set up!!
All the best.

ahhh - it is done!
just finished my order on a 17", 1.8Ghz w/ BT - this will be my first ever Mac, too.
will order a 512MB stick of RAM separately once I have an idea of the ETA
can't wait to finally get rid of the 'ole PC. Maybe I can even recoupe some funds with the sale of some accessories (anyone still buy PC's these days? Seems like all the TV ads nowadays show Apple products ... could've been my mind telling me to finally place that order, too, though)
meantime?: 99 bottles of beer on the wall, 99 bottles of beeeer ...

IMac, therefore I am.
17" IMac G5, 1.8Ghz, 80GB HDD, Bluetooth, 768MB RAM

My mom's getting her first Mac soon as well. She ordered a stock 17" Combo model from Apple Canada, and it shipped Friday.
Technically she's not completely new to Macs, as my stepfather has a 12" iBook, but it's *hers* and it's the first desktop Mac that anyone in the family will have. To her the iMac G5 is really what a desktop computer is supposed to look like: no tower, no base, just an LCD screen.

I get to have almost as much fun as buying a new Mac (I just got a new eMac for myself in May). I'm helping a friend of mine buy a new Mac (+ digital camera, printer, scanner, MIDI keyboard, etc.). I can't tell you how excited I am about it all. I think for 90% of the world, one type of PC is just as good as another to do the basics ... but I've known this guy since I was 12 .. he's going to f#ckin' freak out when he sees what he can do out-of-the-box with iLife and the other freeware stuff I'm going to make sure he gets. This is one person who will get every inch of value out of the Mac hardware/software mix (e.g he actually creates fairly complex music mixes .. manually .. by over-recording on tape track recorder. Garageband will make this painstaking process virtually effortless by comparison). I can hardly wait to see what he cooks up with iMovie

Well thank you.
Mine is still expected to ship sometime in October, Parky any news on yours?
It's odd why there are should be any delays on a product which was announced a few months back!

No news on the tracking page yet.
I did call Apple and they said I would not see any info until the iMac reached the European shippers (TNT).
They said it left Shanghi on Monday and that it usually takes 7 working days to reach the individual, so I should expect it on Monday or Tuesday next week.
I will keep checking the tracking info and let you know when it appears in my radar.
I need to see when it is 'out for delivery' then I can work from home to be in to receive it, otherwise I have to go and pick it up from the depot or wait for them to come out again.
