I have a USB 2.0 burner that I want to use on my Dual 1ghz G4 quicksilver(I got the bunder cheap). So in order to use USB 2.0 speeds(waaaay faster than the built in superdrive) I need to put in a USB 2.0 card. My problem is, I have tried 2 different cards so far, both work great but the machine will not go to sleep in OSX 10.3 or OS9. I use only use it in OSX. Is there a mac specific card that will work???Both cards I tried said they were mac compatible, and they do work, but the machine won't go into sleep mode. Please help!! I don't know if its a certain card I need or if my G4 is just screwy(I think I already have a heat related shutting down problem but it has nothing to do with the USB card.)Thanks in advanced.

Wont go to sleep at all, or goes to sleep but the fans keep running?

If its the latter, then you need to find a USB card that supports "deep sleep."

I've got Adaptec 4-port USB 2.0 cards in two of my machines, but I've actually never tried putting them to sleep. I'll give it a try and see what happens (both my machines do "stuff" 24/7, so I don't put 'em to sleep).

Try this card. I have it on my 1.25x2 G4 and it works like a charm, normal sleep and all!

Can you take the external drive out of its case and put it in the internal bay?

I think his problem then is that if he does take out the superdrive and puts in the CDRW in the tower, he loses out on being able to use iDVD. I think that it needs a superdrive on the internal ATA bus to work. There might be some hack out there but I don't know about it.

Anyway, the card I mentioned works great and will work on OS 10.3 and allow sleep, and is indeed 2.0.

I have a cheap 2 port belkin card in my g4 which I had anticipated on using in my PCs (got it for less than $10 a while ago) -- and it works great. Perhaps one of those?

sorry in being slow to respond. For now I have solved my problem, I am using a cheapo usb 2 card that I got at comp-usa. The card is still not supported in OS9 sleep, but in OSX it woks fine and comes out of sleep....as long as the USB burner is turned off. I tried an old apple usb keyboard plugged into it, would work in sleep mode, but the burner would not. The card does not seem to support the deep sleep mode in OS9 but the problem was that I could not wake it in deep sleep or not. Thanks for all the responses, I'll just have to make sure the burner is off before putting it to sleep at night. As for the buner, it is not inside an external case and cannot be taken out of its enclosure, and the only reason I am using it is because the apple superdrive only burns cd's at **8x**!!kinda slow when making backups of stuff. Thanks again.
