I have a dual g4 400 mhz 156mb ram. It runs rather slow and I can't run garage band at all! I have a couple of questions.......
What good is the dual g4?
How can I make it faster?
Do I need more ram or a faster processor or both?
Will I ever be able to run garage band on it?
Thanks to anyone with answers!!!!

Max out the RAM for sure. GarageBand is a CPU hog, though, so you should consider a processor upgrade as well. It runs reasonably well on my dual 1.4 GHz G4 (upgraded from a single 450 MHz).

You sure it is a dual? Apple didn't produce a dual 400MHz machine.
And yes, for the love of god... get more RAM.

wow...156mb. i bet X is way sluggish on that, eh? yeah, you should notice a big difference if you max out your RAM. i have a single 450 with 2GB, and garage band works fine.

Think of it like this. You have two car engines..but are feeding both of them with a fuel injection system built for one moped engine. They are starved for breathing room. EVERYTHING you do is going to disk cache. Operating with AT LEAST 512MB of RAM, even 256MB, will VASTLY increase the speed of your machine.
