Anyone out there upgrade from a 1.25GHz? I'm interested in how it compares to the new G5. I've seen a few benchmarks but I'm more interested in how people feel about it in real world usage. I'm not sure if I should upgrade yet. Next chance I get I will stop by the Apple Store and take a test drive.

the difference in between a G4 and a G5 is more than you would think. It would be a big upgrade from the 1.25, even if you got the 1.6 G5. I'm upgrading from my 1GHz imac to the 1.8G5 iMac.

Just the clock speed would be quite a big difference.

The clock speed, the vram, the fsb, the memory, the screen, the simplified upgrading, the price--all a big improvement over the G4.
i look in your general direction

Check out these benchmarks. The iMac G5 absolutely destroys the iMac G4.

Well, I found a buyer for my G4 iMac and order the 17" 1.8GHz. It is supposed to ship on or before 11-1-04. I got it with the BT and wireless keyboard and mouse. I will upgrade the RAM myself.

The best part about everything is I sold my old iMac for $1300. Edu. discount took off $100 on the new one. $1399 + $89 for the wireless upgrade (taxed of course). A little over $200 out of pocket isn't bad at all if I do say so myself.
