yesterday, after setting up my new iMac G5, i ran the included hardware test CD just for the hell of it. well, what do you know? it reported an error during the memory test. i only ran the quick test and didn't write down the error code. i've got one 512 chip factory installed by Apple, and another 512 chip i installed - Princeton RAM purchased from Coast-to-Coast/1-800-Memory.

everything seems to be working fine during normal use, so i'm not all that concerned. i really don't want to go through the hassle of removing RAM and retesting, so i guess i'll just watch and see what happens.

anyone ever see anything similar? should i be worried?

its not such an advanced test but it is quite accurate basicly what it found is a memory error or something. I would highly recommend the extended test and if it fails then remove ram and retest.

I know with my G5 iMac, you need to push the ram in further after it clicks in place. Make sure it is seated properly. But if the test found something, then there was something to find.

Well, did you check if your self-installed 512 MB is even showing in the profiler ? Is it installed correctly ?

yep, total RAM shows up as 1Gig.

after several days of use, no problems to report.

maybe i'll try running the extendes test this weekend.
