Hi,

I'll be brief

I have a powerbook 550 g4 upgraded to 60gig 512mb that has a dead screen

I have a imac 500 CD 20gig that is in good shape

Can I swap the slot loading CDRW combo from the powerbook and put it in the iMac?

Can I also put a 120gb drive I have in a P4 2.66 pc into the iMac?

I have no money otherwise I'd buy an iBook but I'm not sure I can live with a 20gig no cdrw iMac so I'm happy to salvage from the parts I have.

Cheers

The hard drive will fit by simply getting a 2.5" to 3.5" hard drive adapter and brackets.

The CD-RW is a little more complicated. It will work, but you'll need to fabricate a bracket to fit it into the drive cage that holds the current CD-ROM.

MCE sells superdrive upgrades for slot-load iMacs that is a slotload notebook drive in just such a bracket.

I've been thinking about making one myself as Newegg.com has slot load notebook dvd-r drives for $130.

Another option is to sell off the cd-rw parts and put it towards an external firewire case and optical drive.
