I may need Van Helsing's help with this one.

I can't seem to start my 1G G4 iMac 17" by the usual means. There is nothing plugged into the computer except the Apple keyboard and mouse.

When I boot from the power button, it chimes but all I get is a grey screen.

I get the same result if I hold down the shift key after the chime and if I use a force-restart (Control-Command and power button).

When I try booting from an external firewire drive holding down the option key, I get a normal looking screen, with the two 'arrow' boxes, but no hard drive icon(s).

There is no opportunity to open the CD drawer and boot from a disc.

Any suggestions or should I go straight to voodoo?
