Hi there-

if you buy a Mac with an integrated Bluetooth module and use a wireless keyboard/mouse, do things just "work" out of the box? or are there configuration changes that you need to make -- and if so, how do you make them?

Thanks!

There are some basic configurations you have to set up the first time you use it. Basically go to blue tooth preferences and tell it to look for a device. Give your mouse and keyboard a name, tell it to connect whenever the device is present. After that it detects automatically.
It's pretty basic.

350Mhz G3 B/W Tower 448MBRAM 7GB 40GB DVDRW OSX 10.3

The first time you start up your new iMac, it will automatically run you through the pairing of your BT devices. You don't need to go to System Preferences at all. It's very easy and will be no problem for you.

When I bought my iBook (with internal bluetooth) the mac tech paired it manually with system preferences.
I have installed OS X 10.3 many times and can not find the automatic bluetooth pairing anywhere in the installation process or in the initial start up. When I turn the wireless mouse on it doesn't auto detect.
Maybe there is something wrong with my computer?

Hi Luke,

The pairing process is part of the setup in the software installed on the new iMac, since if you order the BT bundle, it doesn't come with a wired keyboard and mouse. When pairing my BT mouse and keyboard with my Powerbook I have to do the same as you and go to BT preferences under Mouse and Keyboard in System Preferences to pair them.

Thanks for the replies! I was more curious than anything else. I am hoping to get an iMac with built-in BT.

Actually, it was slightly easier with my BTO G5 iMac with Apple's BT keyboard and mouse ($99 for KB, Mouse and internal BT). They are both "discovered" before the registration screen. You have to type some keys to link the KB but the mouse is linked with a click.
