I bought a new Emac with OS X Panther and want to install the OS from the DVD's onto my PowerMac G4 (Digital Audio, 466 MHz) with CD-only drive. Can I connect the two machines through FireWire and startup the PowerMac from the Emac's DVD-drive? Or is there another way to do it?

Actually, it should work, assuming it's a very recent eMac. Put the eMac into Target Disk Mode (boot with the T key held down), connect the FireWire, then boot the G4 holding down the Option key.

Both the eMac's hard disk and optical drive should get put onto the FireWire.

Yup; works great. Done it many times, myself.

Isn't that a software license violation?
