i posted earler about if it was good to BTO or not and ended up seeing the 1.8 dual in the refurbished section of the apple store for 1699.00. so i guess i won't be BTO'ing but since i saved 300 bucks, i can use that for whatever later i can't wait to finally get rid of my 233 G3 desktop!

thanks, yeah it is a huge step up, i'm thinking on upgrading the ram and getting an extra hard drive first, gonna do a lot of converting old tapes to dvd. then later i'll upgrade the video card if i can tell that this first card is no good. only problem is i won't be able to tell if it's not good or not if i'm comparing it to what i'm on now.

1st... RAM, RAM and more RAM

2nd... WesternDigital Raptor for your system drive.... SATA is capable of 150mbs so both the Raptor and the Apple provided Maxtor can talk at the SAME time, thus major speed increase.

Good luck
Mac Pro 3.0, ATI 5770 1GB VRAM, 10GB, 2xVelociraptor boot RAID, 4.5TB RAID0 storage, 30" & 20" Apple displays.
2 x Macbook Pro's 17" 3.06 4 GB RAM, 256GB Solid State drives
iMac 17" Core Duo 1GB RAM, & 2 iPhones 8GB, and a Nano in a pear tree!
Apple user since 1981
