Burning a 76 minute audio cd with iTunes - the time remaining is over 9 minutes. I have the record speed set to max
This seems more like 8x speed burning to me.The cd-r burn speed is supposed to be 16x with this drive.
The drive shows up as:
MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-825:
Manufacturer: MATSHITA
Model: MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-825
Revision: DBN7
Serial Number:
Drive Type: CD-RW/DVD-RW
Disc Burning: Apple Supported/Shipped
Removable Media: Yes
Detachable Drive: No
Protocol: ATAPI
Unit Number: 0
Socket Type: Internal
So, I did another test burning the same cd on a PowerBook G4 17" - this time the estimate was a little over 4 minutes. The cd-r burn speed is 16x with this drive.
I am using Verbatim CD-R 16x max speed media.
Even using Toast 6.0.7 I get similar results.

It is worth you trying some different discs. I have the same drive in my iMac and so far it has recorded at 16 speed on a range of different discs. The last ones I bought were Datawrite, about £12 for 100.

It seems to be media related:
I insert a variety of media and in Toast 6.0.7 some media the best recording speed is 8x in bold and 16x is in italics and the other media 16x is in bold
It seems to be dye related.
Verbatim 16x speed max speed can't burn at 16x on iMac but will burn 16x on PowerBook G4
But, I tried TDK 16x max speed and it did burn at 16x
Verbatim is dark blue colored media
TDK is goldish blue colored media
Are some drives more sensitive to media?
It seems on my PowerBook G4 UJ-815 I can burn 16x on variety of media while the UJ-825 on iMac is very picky.
UJ-815 & UJ-825 are both superdrives

The last few packs of DVD-R discs I have bought have all been Ritek G04 Dye, and so far I have had 100% success with them.
I have been using Datawrite CD-R which I believe also use a Ritek dye, and so far 100% success.

The Ritek G04 dye used on DVDs is purple. The CDs are the normal silver.
