I've discovered a machine at work that has two 128 MB modules in it, for a total of 256 MB of RAM. Is that really all it shipped with? Is that really the configuration that Apple would ship it in (as opposed to one 256MB module)? Thanks.

yes, that is the base config. since it is dual channel, ram muat be in pairs, so two 128's is the base for all of those machines.

Hey #,

Yeah, G5s require RAM to be installed in pairs in order to use it in dual-channel configuration. So your RAM will run at 666 MHz instead of 333 MHz.

BTW, Apple continues to supply the 1.8 GHz G5s (single and dual) with two 128 MB modules. Yes, it's very little RAM. Those are also the PowerMacs that have only four RAM slots.

Thanks. So does that mean on ramseeker.com the G5 RAM labeled "KIT" is comes in pairs of modules instead of one module?

Probably. A 1GB "kit" would be 2x512MB
